Commanders don’t want to see Marcus Davenport

The Washington Commanders need to bring in multiple starting reinforcements for their offensive line this offseason. They were let down constantly by suspect protection in 2022, which cannot go on any longer if Eric Bieniemy wants to prove beyond all doubt he’s worthy of an NFL head coaching gig.

This is one of the league’s most difficult divisions in terms of pass-rush. Almost every team is loaded with outstanding players across their front seven, which makes the level of urgency even greater for the Commanders to fix the protection.

There’s a chance more capable bodies come into the NFC East in free agency. Marcus Davenport is among the best available on the market and after signing Derek Carr to a bumper deal, the New Orleans Saints might not have enough to extend the defensive end when push comes to shove.

Davenport had a down year by his high standards in 2022, but that does not detract from what an outstanding weapon he can be when in the mood. And after things became stagnant in New Orleans, a fresh start could be just what he needs.

Putting Davenport on the Dallas Cowboys or New York Giants is a genuine possibility. One that should make the Commanders sit up and take notice.
