Commanders have the cap space and draft capital

Players of Jalen Ramsey’s caliber don’t become available for trade too often. The former first-round selection is still in his prime and playing at an All-Pro level, so the queue of potential suitors should be large if Tom Pelissero’s report is accurate.

The Washington Commanders have a need at cornerback, as stated previously. They also boast the necessary salary-cap space and draft capital this year and next to get this potential deal over the line.

Washington can free up significant financial resources through early releases and contract restructures in readiness for the free-agent period next month. Those in power also boast eight selections during the 2023 NFL Draft that they must spend wisely in pursuit of progression.

One suspects the Los Angeles Rams could ask for a Day 2 pick and more for Ramsey. But there is no guaranteed money on his contract after the 2023 campaign, so this is more realistic than most Commanders’ fans realize all things considered.

Playing in a big market like Washington on a talented roster might be appealing to Ramsey. The one-time Florida State stud won’t be cheap to acquire, but the Commanders have more clout than most if they threw their hat into the ring.
