There are plenty of reasons to suggest that the Washington Commanders could make a bold trade bid for cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

Tom Pelissero’s report about an imminent trade for Jalen Ramsey has the rumor mill buzzing. The NFL Network insider stated that the Los Angeles Rams have been engaged in talks surrounding the All-Pro cornerback and a deal could be confirmed in the coming days, which would be the latest in a long line of stars to be dealt over the last two years.

This would send shockwaves around the league. Ramsey is still one of the league’s best outside coverage cornerbacks, with the player’s ability against the run something else that further enhances his credentials as a three-down force.

The Washington Commanders have been known to make a splash or two in free agency or the trade market. Therefore, acquiring an elite, high-profile player like Ramsey is an intriguing option that should excite fans.

With this in mind, here are three reasons why the Commanders should trade for Ramsey this offseason.

Commanders need a shutdown CB

The Washington Commanders are in desperate need of a true shutdown cornerback. Kendall Fuller and Benjamin St-Juste are capable, but the current NFL trend dictates any contending organization must have someone that can lock down one side of the field consistently.

Much will depend on the compensation involved. But there’s no doubt Ramsey would significantly improve Washington’s secondary heading into a crucial third campaign for head coach Ron Rivera.
