Eric Bienemy on Commanders’ QB situation

Among the first tasks on Eric Bieniemy’s lengthy to-do list is assessing and forming a plan for the quarterback position. Carson Wentz will be released and Taylor Heinicke is looking for a new deal, which puts the focus firmly on Sam Howell as the team’s potential No. 1 option right now.

Ron Rivera has already stated that he expects Howell to be top of the depth chart at OTAs. Further reinforcements are going to arrive, but Bieniemy was nothing but complimentary of the North Carolina product – even if he is still in the early stages of analyzing his skills.

"“Well, I can only base my evaluation on what he did coming out of college. Now I did have an opportunity to see him play in that last game against the Dallas Cowboys. The kid is a dynamic football player. He can make throws from different platforms. You can tell he has a baseball background.”"

Howell could be the one who benefits most from Bieniemy’s arrival. The coach’s influence on Patrick Mahomes is unquestioned en route to two Super Bowls and NFL MVP awards, which is a track record few could match and something that can finally solve the Commanders’ complex complication under center.

The former fifth-round selection was among those in attendance for Bieniemy’s introductory press conference. Hopefully, this is the start of a fruitful relationship that will spearhead the Commanders back into the NFC East title picture.
