Eric Bienimey on the Commanders’ QB situation

According to a report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Eric Bieniemy and other potential candidates were high on the Washington Commanders’ offense and Sam Howell, in particular. The quarterback looks set to enter OTAs as the team’s starting option, although the promise of one or two more coming in for depth and competition is almost assured with Carson Wentz’s release on the immediate horizon.

This might be true. But we’ll find out for sure what Bieniemy thinks of the Commanders’ current quarterback situation during his eagerly anticipated introductory presser.

Bieniemy is in the opening stages of evaluating Howell and others. Although he’ll have done plenty of homework before lengthy discussions with those in power before accepting the job last week.

In an ideal world, Howell will seize this opportunity with both hands and become Washington’s long-term answer under center. This would also enable the Commanders to build around a rookie contract for the next two years before the time comes to extend the former North Carolina stud.

However, there needs to be a contingency plan in place due to injury or poor performance. Whether that comes via the draft or a veteran in free agency remains to be seen, but Bieniemy should keep the cards close to his chest at this stage of the offseason.
