Commanders could draft Tyjae Spears

  • Running Back | Tulane Green Wave

Brian Robinson Jr. and Antonio Gibson will lead the running back room under Eric Bieniemy. But the future of J.D. McKissic is in some doubt given his lack of involvement through injury.

Much will depend on what the offensive coordinator thinks of the team’s current options. However, it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see the Washington Commanders acquire another running back that can potentially become a prolific pass-catcher right out of the gate.

If this is something the Commanders consider, then it provides Bieniemy with another dimension. One that could allow the play-caller to be even more creative in pursuit of a playoff return.

Tyjae Spears is someone that ticks all the boxes. He is an electrifying prospect that saw his stock surge at the 2023 Senior Bowl, with elusive route-running and explosiveness out of cuts something that won’t have gone unnoticed by NFL scouts.

Spears already had intrigue surrounding his potential after a standout final campaign at Tulane. The dual-threat weapon was an absolute revelation from start to finish, accumulating 1,837 all-purpose yards and 21 touchdowns as a result of his outstanding efforts.

While it will be tougher in the NFL and Spears has work to do in terms of pass-blocking, Bieniemy could use him as a dynamic gadget option as he brings on other areas of his game.
