Carson Wentz could join the Panthers

Another potential landing spot for Carson Wentz has some newfound familiarity attached. Frank Reich has worked closely with the signal-caller throughout his career – through the good times and bad – and the Carolina Panthers could need a veteran presence while Matt Corral or another talented rookie from the college ranks gets up to speed.

This would provide Reich with someone who knows the system. But much will depend on the money involved and whether the head coach wants to hitch his wagon to the former No. 1 overall selection for a third time.

Acquiring Wentz wouldn’t exactly go down well with Panthers fans. They’ve endured some significant turmoil since Matt Rhule decided to release Cam Newton in 2020, so front office figures such as general manager Scott Fitterer must come up with a better solution heading into 2023.

Reich has to hit the ground running after getting another head coaching gig. Wentz might have knowledge of the system he wants to deploy, but the inconsistent production throughout his career indicates it would be a huge gamble.

The Panthers won’t leave anything to chance with a more collective approach in the wake of Rhule’s firing. But reuniting with Wentz is not something they should consider when push comes to shove.
