2. Picked up flag on Terry McLaurin DPI in red zone

This one is absolutely infuriating. The Giants secondary was (unsurprisingly) overmatched by McLaurin’s pristine route-running. On this particular rep, McLaurin bamboozled old friend Fabian Moreau in press man. Draped all over McLaurin, the cornerback was flagged for defensive pass interference.

The only problem? Officials picked up the flag after further review. You only see that on phantom calls (like Thomas’ block in the back). This, however, was the textbook definition of a pass interference, as Moreau made clear contact with McLaurin as the ball arrived. Check out how blatant this was.

Did the referees pick up the flag because the ball was underthrown? We certainly hope not, because quarterbacks are bailed out on under-thrown balls every week. The bottom line is McLaurin was impeded from making a play on the ball. Moreau literally body checks him with his arm extended.

Had the flag stood, Washington would’ve been set up with 1st and goal. Instead, they settled for a field goal. You obviously can’t guarantee a touchdown in that situation, but Washington was deprived of a chance to find pay dirt in a one-score game. This was a game-changing call, and they had it right initially.

It should’ve never been picked up.
