3. Phantom block in the back on Logan Thomas

Thomas had a really rough sequence in the third quarter.

With Washington in need of a score, the veteran tight end was flagged twice on one drive; once for holding and once for an illegal block in the back. While the holding call was legitimate, the block in the back was flat-out ridiculous and has as wondering if the refs placed a wager on New York before the game.

Trailing 20-13 on a first down run from Curtis Samuel, Thomas helped out his teammates with a thumping block — to the SIDE, not back — of a Giants defender. The play was deemed illegal by officials and negated a first down, even though it wasn’t even “in the back” and didn’t have a big impact on the play.

If that’s a block in the back, then it would be called 10 times per game. Blocks like this  happen all the time in the trenches. For whatever reason, the zebras decided to tarnish a hard-fought rivalry game with momentum-killing penalties. Again, if they’re warranted, then by all means throw your laundry.

If they aren’t, like in this instance, let the teams play.
