The Washington Commanders had to come from behind to defeat the Atlanta Falcons last season. You’ll remember Washington trailing 30-22 entering the fourth quarter before Taylor Heinicke authored a thrilling comeback with touchdown passes to Terry McLaurin and J.D. McKissic in the final five minutes of regulation.

Fans will remember McKissic doing most of the work on the 30-yard game-winner — which he capped with a flip into the end zone — but Heinicke did fantastically to navigate pressure and find McKissic wide open as his check down.

This time around, the Commanders are hoping to make things easier on themselves. This is a massive game in the NFC playoff picture, and a Washington win would put Atlanta extremely behind the eight ball in the close race, as they’ll be two games out with only six games remaining on the schedule.

Commanders vs Falcons Odds and Predictions

  • The Commanders are -4 home favorites. That’s down 0.5 points from earlier in the week, suggesting some money’s come in on the Falcons. Washington is -110 to cover the line and -198 to win outright on the moneyline.
  • Jack Del Rio’s defense allowed Cordarrelle Patterson to erupt for three touchdowns (all receiving) in Week 4 of last season. We don’t see that happening again.
  • The Commanders’ defense is firing on all cylinders right now, and Marcus Mariota will be without top pass-catcher Kyle Pitts. If Washington stops the run, they should win this game comfortably. But the Falcons are feisty, so this should be a close game. The Commanders win (and push), 27-23.
