The momentum the Washington Commanders manufactured following their thrilling season-opening win over the Jaguars is long gone. Since then, the Commanders have lost two straight games, with their latest coming in a non-competitive loss to the Eagles at home that dropped them to last place in the NFC East.

While the current mood surrounding the team is pretty negative, there’s no reason to think the sky is falling. The Commanders still play a soft schedule and have plenty of time — 14 games to be exact — to get their season back on track.

Though Ron Rivera, the front office and the coaching staff believe they have the players to accomplish that, it wouldn’t hurt putting some of the team’s remaining cap space to use by signing a free agent or two to spark the club.

Believe it or not, there are ample intriguing free agents remaining three weeks into the season. These three would give an immediate boost to Washington.

The Commanders secondary is talented. Kendall Fuller, William Jackson and Bobby McCain are all experienced pros who’ve had success in the league, Kam Curl is a rising star at safety and the defense’s ultimate chess piece with his positional versatility, and Benjamin St-Juste and Darrick Forrest are intriguing building blocks.

But would it really hurt to add another corner to the mix?

At some point, Jackson needs to be benched if he continues allowing chunk plays. Not to mention, he was questionable for Sunday vs the Eagles with a back injury and missed multiple games last season. Fuller certainly hasn’t been at his best to start the year and St-Juste has taken his lumps defending the slot.

Again, would it hurt to add a veteran of Harris’ caliber to the rotation? At 33 years old, it’s unclear if Harris has plans to return to the NFL, but we haven’t seen any reports to suggest he’s pondering retirement.

The idea of signing a corner in the twilight of his career might not resonate with Commanders fans, but he’s the top player at the position on the market and his experience and leadership could be just what the doctor ordered for Washington’s mistake- and miscommunication-prone secondary.
