If it was possible for losses to count twice, the Philadelphia Eagles thumping of the Washington Commanders met all of the necessary criteria. The final score didn’t accurately convey how lopsided the game was, which is crazy (but true) to say considering the Eagles scored 24 unanswered points in the second quarter.

You know it’s a bad day when Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson drop passes.

Of course, McLaurin and Dotson were nowhere near the problem on Sunday. Very few players actually deserved to be on the winning side. Conversely, a cavalcade of players deserve to be criticized for their performance.

But who were the most disappointing Commanders from the loss? We narrowed it down to four players based on PFF’s official game stats.

Most disappointing Commanders from Week 3 loss to the Eagles

Wes Schweitzer

We’re not sure if PFF has a “snapping” grading metric. If they did, Schweitzer would’ve failed with flying colors. Filling in for the injured Chase Roullier, Schweitzer’s snaps were low and wobbly when Wentz was lined up in shotgun. Even when Wentz was under center, there wasn’t a fluid exchange with his center.

Beyond that, Schweitzer was a travesty blocking. He finished as the Commanders’ lowest-graded offensive player at 45.9 and his 24.0 pass-blocking grade was 29.4 points lower than the next lowest-graded pass blocker, Andrew Norwell.

For the game, Schweitzer allowed five pressures, three hurries and a sack. The veteran lineman has been a solid backup for Washington over the years, but he’s clearly more comfortable at guard relative to center. The Commanders need new signing Nick Martin to get up to speed with the offense as soon as possible.

Montez Sweat

So, about giving Sweat the bag over Daron Payne? Through three games, it’s abundantly clear which player deserves a multi-year extension and it’s the player who was responsible for Washington’s first points on Sunday.

Sweat, on the other hand, was a virtual no-show vs the Eagles. According to PFF, Sweat didn’t log a single pressure, hurry, or quarterback hit. He finished the game with one tackle and one combined tackle.

Sweat has zero sacks and just eight pressures in three games. For context, Brandon Graham had five pressures Sunday alone. While Sweat’s been solid against the run, he’s paid to rush the quarterback and hasn’t done that.

Sunday was just a continuation of that.

Sam Cosmi

Schweitzer and Cosmi were far and away the weak links on Washington’s offensive line Sunday, though no player performed well.

Per PFF, Cosmi allowed six pressures, three sacks and two quarterback hits on 49 pass-blocking snaps. Somehow, the 2021 second-round pick finished with a 71.6 player grade for the game, but the aforementioned stats and a simple eye test is all you need to realize Sunday was easily Cosmi’s worst game as a pro.

Six pressures in one game almost seems impossible.

Kendall Fuller

The Commanders needed Fuller to step up with William Jackson III sidelined with a back injury. Instead, it was Benjamin St-Juste who personified the team’s No. 1 cornerback, as Fuller was absolutely torched all game long.

According to PFF, Fuller played all 64 snaps and allowed nine catches for 152 yards, including 55 yards after the catch (!) on 11 targets. No other defender allowed more than 65 yards in coverage. Fuller also gave up a touchdown to DeVonta Smith and Jalen Hurts boasted a 149.1 QBR when targeting the cornerback.

Fuller has the fourth-highest cap hit on the team for 2022. Just an inexcusable performance from a guy who’s paid to resemble a lockdown corner.
