Inaugural Washington Commanders Roster of 53 Prediction
After an offseason of organized team activities, mini-camp, training camp, and two preseason games, it is time for an inaugural Washington Commanders roster of 53 prediction for 2022.
It is a time-honored tradition when the late summer season begins to shift our minds from family vacations, trips to the beach, and back-to-school sales and gives way to the inevitability of football season. It’s also a tradition for yours truly to bring the best fans in this sport a Commanders roster of 53 prediction at this time each year.
As we have seen in seasons past, making such a list is very difficult and rarely do we all agree with one another. However, that is the beauty of such an exercise and it helps us all to build our hopes of a successful and enjoyable season.
There are many new faces at Commanders headquarters in Ashburn and you will see these names today. How accurate will this roster of 53 prognostication compare to the actual list in the coming days? What does your list look like and how does it compare to what you will see today? We will divide this list according to each unit on offense, defense, and special teams. We’re on the threshold of a new journey in team history.
Let’s continue this yearly tradition now!
Commanders 53-man roster prediction
Offense
Quarterbacks
1. Carson Wentz
2. Taylor Heinicke
3. Sam Howell
The undisputed starter for 2022 is Carson Wentz and he is possibly the best quarterback that Washington has seen in five years. He has been decent in the preseason, but not flashy or spectacular. Wentz is healthy and that is the most important statistic at this juncture.
Taylor Heinicke was nothing more than a one game wonder a year ago and fans figured that his time with the Commanders was probably coming to an end. In another quirk of fate, the former Old Dominion quarterback was suddenly the starter once again and the 2021 season was his to shape and design. Fast forward to the present and he is now one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league.
Sam Howell will spend the 2022 season learning the playbook and learning the system.
Running Backs
1. Brian Robinson
2. J.D. McKissic
3. Antonio Gibson
4. Jonathan Williams
Ten years ago, a young player became the talk of training camp and he would go on to produce the best season ever at running back for Washington. Like Alfred Morris ten years ago, Brian Robinson stunned analysts and fans alike in training camp and the first two games of the preseason. He is your starter.
J.D. McKissic will return to his familiar role of a receiving back and multi-faceted gadget player. Gibson will likely become more of a receiving back and a returner on special teams.
