3. Jaret Patterson

Not much explanation is needed here, folks.

With JD McKissic back in the mix after re-signing and Washington drafting Alabama stud Brian Robinson Jr. in the third round this year, the Commanders’ backfield rotation for 2022 was likely set in stone back in April.

Crazier things have happened, sure, but this is one of the deepest backfield’s in the NFL and each player complements each other perfectly on paper. Antonio Gibson is the lead guy and should receive anywhere from 15-20 touches per game, McKissic is the third-down specialist who flourishes as a pass-catcher and Robinson is the thumper who will be deployed in short-yardage and goal-line situations.

That’s unfortunate for Patterson, who really did nothing to find himself on the roster bubble after he starred last offseason. The then-UDFA made the team and totaled 78 touches for 339 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns.

Patterson was one of a few Commanders who played all 17 games, but the NFL is a harsh business and the Maryland native has sadly fallen victim to Washington restocking their backfield this offseason.
