Jonathan Allen-Russell Wilson Pro Bowl bromance stokes trade rumors
By Jerry Trotta
The Washington Commanders faithful (still adjusting to that) are looking for any reason to convince themselves that the front office will make a trade offer for one of Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, or, to a lesser extent, Derek Carr.
From a talent standpoint, we’d lump Deshaun Watson into that group. However, there’s no sense in trading for the superstar until his legal situation, which is seemingly stuck between a rock and a hard place, is resolved.
If we had to throw a needle into a haystack, we’d say that Wilson is the most attainable of that foursome. Of course, the lifetime Seattle Seahawk would have to sanction a trade to the Commanders, which is no guarantee.
However, Jonathan Allen, who’s been incredibly busy this week between Wednesday’s rebrand and Sunday’s Pro Bowl, wasted no time making friends with the nine-time Pro Bowler in Las Vegas this weekend.
At the Skills Challenge on Friday, Allen’s wife, Hannah, posted an Instagram photo alongside her husband, Wilson, and his wife, Ciara.
Commanders DT Jonathan Allen was busy catching up with Russell Wilson at this weekend’s Pro Bowl.
That settles it. Wilson’s coming to Washington. Put it in stone.
With the Commanders in the market for a quarterback — and being linked to Wilson by some folks who claim to be in the know — that pretty much sumps up how the fan base reacted after this photo made its way to Twitter.
Of course, this photo isn’t a big deal. For starters, Wilson and Ciara probably took pictures with several NFC and AFC stars. They’re one of the most notable celebrity couples on the planet and Wilson is one of the most respected players, let alone QBs, in the NFL. Who wouldn’t want a photo with them?
At an event with some of the most gifted athletes in the world of sport, Wilson is in a class of his own as far as popularity is concerned. While that’s a testament to why nearly every existing Commanders fans wants to trade for him, it helps puts some perspective on his photo with the Allen’s.
Additionally, Washington fans weren’t the only fans to blow a largely meaningless exchange out of proportion. During Friday’s practice, Saints and Seahawks Twitter collectively erupted when Wilson threw a pass to Alvin Kamara.
At the same time, though, it’s definitely not insignificant that Allen and Wilson have a bromance in the works. Did the first-time Pro Bowler make a recruitment pitch to the perennial MVP candidate behind the scenes?
We certainly wouldn’t put it past Allen, who proved this week with the role he played at the rebrand, that he has the team’s best interests at heart, but we’re merely speculating here.
Whether you take this photo with a grain of salt or have already started photoshopping Wilson into a Commanders uniform, we can say beyond a shadow of the doubt that this exchange has further stoked the trade rumors.
