In less than 48 hours from now, the Washington Football Team will have a new nickname. And with it, will come new uniforms.

As thrilled as we are to have an actual nickname to write out (Football Team really doesn’t flow off the tongue), we’re more relived the wait is over so all the internet detectives and so-called “in the knows” can go back into hiding.

After all, whatever’s chosen will get panned no matter what. Some fans will like it. Most won’t. There’s no getting around that.

You know what would really help fans warm up to the new nickname? Nailing the new uniforms, logo and name design. Everything we’ve heard about them suggests they’re gonna be a big hit and that notion was punctuated after Terry McLaurin, Jonathan Allen and Chase Young were given a sneak peak over the weekend.

Judging by their reactions, the design team crushed it.

Washington stars Terry McLaurin, Jonathan Allen and Terry McLaurin reacted to the team’s new uniforms.

Ok, so can everyone relax now?

Probably not, but these reactions should at least offer up some encouragement for fans before Wednesday’s name reveal. Even if you don’t endorse the nickname — which McLaurin, Allen and Young have raved about already — it feels like Washington is going to look pretty sharp playing football in 2022 and beyond.

"“I think the whole package is complete,” Allen told reporters one day after Washington’s season ended. “It’s better than I was expecting, to be honest. I had my doubts going into it, but after leaving it I was super happy and you could see the time and the effort put into it.”“The jerseys look phenomenal. Everything works. I’m just really happy with the way things turned out, and I think the fans are going to love it.”"

"“At the end of the day, I feel like people are going to feel some type of way whatever the name is, but at the end of the day I just hope it’s something that we can all rally around,” McLaurin added."

Throw in Young’s, “Y’all took this opportunity and went crazy,” comment from the video and perhaps fans will be more optimistic heading into Wednesday.

We’re not saying to be blindly optimistic, but the fact the franchise’s three most recognizable faces love the new jerseys should at least inject some positivity into a fan base that’s (still) driving itself up a wall trying to uncover the new name.

Whether it’s Commanders, Admirals, Red Hogs, Football Team or something else, let’s try do embrace McLaurin’s mindset and rally around it. And if the uniforms “slap,” as the kids say, that’s just an added bonus.

Next. Here's how you can watch and celebrate name reveal. dark
