1. The Reality Is, Taylor Heinicke has a real opportunity.

Taylor Heinicke has a bit of a cult following among Washington Football fans. And while his body of work in professional football is relatively small and uneven to this point, he has a unique opportunity with Fitzpatrick going to IR.

This is Taylor’s team for at least 3 weeks. If he finds a way to get the win vs. the Giants and manages one more win out of the next two weeks, it will be difficult for Ron Rivera to give Fitzpatrick the starting job back even if he’s healthy.

Heinicke has much of the same tendencies as Fitzpatrick…a lot of magic and a lot of head-scratch. If Heinicke can manage to ride the lightning and give this team chances to win over the next few weeks, he very well could earn himself the starting job for the remainder of the season.

Then again, this is Washington, so it’s possible (likely?) that he ends up hurt before Week 3.

Prediction: Heinicke will do the “Kurt Cousins” dance, giving his biggest fans and his biggest detractors both plenty of fodder for their arguments over the coming weeks, but this week, in a short week against the Giants, he’ll do enough to get the win and keep the season alive.

Washington gets their first win in five tries against Daniel Jones and breaks their five-game losing streak to the Giants with a wobbly and nerve-wracking performance for a 24-23 win. Almost zero questions are answered, but the team manages to avoid the 0-2 tank and live to die another day.
