If you love the Taylor Heinicke story, how could you turn down Jordan Ta’amu? The last football job Heinicke had before coming to the Washington Football Team was serving as the backup QB on the St. Louis Battlehawks of the XFL. The starter – the man who was deemed better than Heinicke? None other than Jordan Ta’amu.

Ta’amu was a duel threat quarterback at Ole Miss, who parlayed a strong senior year into a couple of tryouts with some NFL teams. He has never stuck, but Kansas City thought enough of him to bring him to their practice squad on two separate occasions. I figure if Andy Reid shows that kind of interest in a QB, he’s worth a look.

In fact, we know the Football Team has agreed with that assessment as recently as last Spring when they did in fact bring him into rookie camp. I don’t have any real read on whether they liked what they saw at the time, but the prospect of moving forward with two former St. Louis Battlehawk signal caller may be too enticing to pass up.

Of course, the elephant (or Panther, or Patriot) in the room on this list is Cam Newton. Seems impossible to me, for a number of reasons. The only way I could see such a thing happening is if Ryan Fitzpatrick goes down with a serious injury. If that happens, then a total reassessment is in order.

In lieu of that, expect to see a small-scale signing coming fairly soon.
