The Washington Football Team came into Thursday night’s preseason opener with fairly low expectations.

While Ron Rivera runs as buttoned-up of a training camp as any head coach in the league, the transition from practice to a live game just doesn’t compare as far as intensity is concerned.

We saw that over the first couple drives, as both Washington and the Patriots struggled to establish a rhythm on offense.

You know who didn’t come out sluggish, though? The Football Team’s defense, specifically edge rusher Chase Young, who made his presence felt early with a strip sack of Cam Newton.

The sheer ease in which Young made his way into the Patriots’ backfield is something to behold, and qualifies as the Football Team’s first official highlight of 2021.

Football Team star Chase Young made light work of the Patriots offensive line.

In Cam Newton’s defense, his left tackle was absolutely steamrolled by Young. Any quarterback likely would’ve coughed up the football here. Unfortunately, the Football Team came up short in repaying the star DE’s effort by failing to recover the fumble.

Still, however, if this is a sign of things to come for Young in his second NFL season, fans in Washington are in for a real treat. We can’t speak for his teammates (yet), but Young sure looks ready for the regular season to start. Talk about setting the tone!
