Washington Football Team’s most difficult stretch: Weeks 6-10

  • Week 6 vs. Chiefs
  • Week 7 @ Packers
  • Week 8 @ Broncos
  • Week 9 BYE
  • Week 10 vs. Buccaneers

It does not get much more brutal than this when it comes to constructing a schedule.

In the span of five weeks, the Washington Football Team will play three of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, and Tom Brady. All of those QBs give their teams a chance to win every time they’re on the field and though Washington has a strong defense, they won’t necessarily be able to contain those passing attacks.

More from Commanders Schedule

Of the bunch, Washington has the best chance to beat the Bucs. Brady doesn’t do well under pressure because he’s immobile, and Washington was able to score some points with Taylor Heinicke at QB against Tampa Bay in the playoffs. So, if the perfect storm of events comes together, they could challenge for a win in that game, and they will be at home. So, that helps.

The Chiefs game is also at home, but that one will be tougher to win. Mahomes is on another level and with a better, reconstructed offensive line in front of him, he shouldn’t be under as much pressure as he was in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs defense is also underrated, so, advantage, Kansas City.

The Packers are a bit of a wait-and-see right now because of the growing rift between them and Rodgers, but if Rodgers stays, beating him at Lambeau Field won’t be easy. And if he goes, his most likely landing spot is in Denver, a team that Washington is playing in Week 8.

Don’t sleep on the Broncos as a tougher competition. Sure, their quarterback situation isn’t a good one, but the rest of their roster is very strong. If the Broncos can turn this game into a defensive battle in the thin Denver air, that could give them enough to eke out a win. Washington should win that game, but don’t rule out some offensive struggles against Vic Fangio’s defense.

The Week 9 bye will provide Washington with a brief respite, but this stretch doesn’t look too friendly to them. If things break the wrong way, this could be an 0-4 stretch. That said, if Washington can go 2-2 or better in this stretch, it could give them a confidence boost as they look to challenge for a second straight division title.
