The Carolina Panthers are reportedly among the teams interested in former Washington Football Team QB Dwayne Haskins.

The Washington Football Team released quarterback Dwayne Haskins on Monday in just his second season with the team. On Tuesday, Haskins went through waivers unclaimed and is now a free agent.

While Haskins will probably get a second chance somewhere, it doesn’t look like another team will sign him before Week 17. That said, there are teams showing some interest in the passer.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Carolina Panthers are one of the teams that are “intrigued by Haskins.”

That’s certainly an interesting development. The Panthers were, after all, the team that just beat Washington and bore witness to Haskins’ awful performance. So, it’s somewhat surprising that they’d be among the team’s interested in Haskins.

At the same time, Matt Rhule has coached in college for most of his career, and he was certainly aware of Haskins’ production during his prolific year as Ohio State’s starting quarterback. Perhaps he believes that he can get the most out of Haskins and he may like Haskins better than fellow 2019 draftee and second-year project, Will Grier.

A quarterback room of Teddy Bridgewater, PJ Walker, Haskins, and Grier would certainly be an intriguing one jam-packed with upside. We’ll keep an eye on Carolina to see if they do, ultimately, pursue Haskins in a buy-low opportunity.

No matter where Haskins lands, Washington will be glad that they parted with him. Haskins wasn’t succeeding on or off it in Washington, and he needed both a change of scenery and a wake-up call. He got that via his release and also by parting with his former agent David Mulugheta.

dark. Next. Washington facing familiar win-and-in scenario

Now, Washington can move on and try to make the playoffs with Alex Smith or Taylor Heinicke in charge of the team. And if that doesn’t work, they can look for their quarterback of the future once again in 2021.
