No. 1 and No. 2

Negative No. 1

The first negative is the most obvious negative of all – Dwayne Haskins.  It seemed like his tenure as a Washington Football Team quarterback was doomed immediately after his name was announced as the 15th overall selection in the 2019 draft.  The coaching staff at that time didn’t want him.  The new coaching staff gave him several chances, but it never materialized.  The fans quickly turned on the former Ohio State signal caller.

We are not going to dwell on the “extra-curricular” activities from last week and even going back further.  Just this game alone was a horrific outing for Haskins.  It became all too obvious when an unknown (Taylor Heinicke) quarterback entered the game and ran the offense so much better.  At that juncture, even the most casual of fans knew that Haskins would not see the field again in 2020.

This first negative from Sunday’s game is not easy to talk about, but it will also be the last time that Haskins will be mentioned as a quarterback for the Burgundy and Gold.

No. 2

Negative No. 2

Cam Sims was on fire a few weeks ago, but he has been in something of a slump in recent games.  Sunday’s contest against the Panthers was no exception as he hauled in just three catches on nine targets.  Two would-be receptions were dropped – one for a very important first down and another one late in the game that would’ve been an extremely significant touchdown.

These lapses in concentration should not be occurring so late in the season and during a push for the division title.  Sims can provide many extra yards after a catch with his nifty elusiveness, but now is not the time for the Crimson Tide product to regress.
