Washington Football Team Stud: RB Antonio Gibson

In college, Antonio Gibson carried the ball just 33 times in total. He may not be experienced, but he is making an impact at the NFL level.

On Sunday, Gibson was arguably the most important player to the Washington offense. He handled 17 touches and managed 104 yards and a TD on the day. Most impressively, he had 19 carries nad turned them into 94 yards and helped methodically move the ball on the Cincinnati defense.

Gibson had a complete game for Washington. He simply looked great on the field and served as a multifaceted weapon. Along with Terry McLaurin, Gibson is a huge building block and along with J.D. McKissic, he forms a strong one-two punch at the RB spot.

Our own Ian Cummings put into words my exact thoughts on Gibson after watching this game against the Bengals. Here’s what he said in his postgame takeaways.

"Antonio Gibson might be a budding star at running back, and he still hasn’t gotten involved to his full potential in the running game."

That’s exactly what Gibson has. Potential. We saw it on Sunday. He showed off how shifty and elusive he can be in space. He showed good speed and burst hitting holes and trying to beat defenders vertically. And he showed good strength fighting for extra yards and running behind what is merely a decent offensive line.

Gibson was the big star for Washington on Sunday. He helped key the offense to a win and helped the team control the clock in the second half. If he can keep progressing, he could prove to be one of the best, young running backs in the league. Here’s hoping he can do that.
