Six Washington Football Team players to build on for the future
No. 3 – RB Antonio Gibson
It may seem odd to place a running back as one of the core six team players (more on that a little later), but Antonio Gibson could be a special contributor for the next six to eight years. It could possibly be more if his health can hold on and if he is able to withstand the rigors of being the primary back. So why are we placing Gibson here when his body of work is so small?
Gibson is a rookie and he is just beginning to make his mark on the organization. The former Memphis Tiger is a highly versatile weapon, but his first few games are not the sample some may consider as an example of a team leader.
Antonio Gibson’s steady improvement in recent weeks does demonstrate his ability to lead by example, but more is needed. He has the talent of a superstar and is likely on his way to creating a great legacy in the league and with the Washington Football Team. That makes him a core player, especially for the future.
The preference is to place a quarterback with the offensive core and as a player to build around, but that dynamic doesn’t exist for now. The hope for Washington is to find that quarterback soon. He will be the heart and soul of the team. Gibson is a solid player to build around for the next few years, but a quarterback is much more important. For now, fans can enjoy the talents of Gibson and his versatility. Let’s hope Gibson’s quarterback is just around the corner.
