Last Week’s Sells

OL Wes Martin. Martin actually played OK on Sunday. He is giving up too much pressure in the passing game but has only given up one sack this season. He’s been outplayed by Wes Schweitzer, who he presumably beat out for the starting left guard spot, but maybe I was a bit too harsh to put the sell tag on his last week. I still am not confident he’s earning the long-term starting left guard spot.

Not Trying to Win. Rivera has three losses as the Head Coach of the Washington Football Team. In all three losses, he had chances (albeit long-shots), to come back late in those games. And in all three cases, he made odd decisions counter to conventional wisdom.

This week, he oddly went for a fourth-and-goal from the 13 even though the team needed three scores to tie. He chose to do so to test Dwayne Haskins. This indicates that he is still using games for training purposes, rather than simply approaching them with the purpose of winning. Still selling this idea. I hate it.
