Josh Harvey-Clemons

Experience: 4th season

Draft Status: 2017 seventh-round pick, 230th overall

2019 Stats: Nine games, three tackles

2020 Outlook: Last year, Harvey-Clemons looked impressive in the preseason as a linebacker. And at the time, it seemed possible that he could carve out a role in the defense.

Instead, Harvey-Clemons played exclusively on special teams in 2019 and was decent at best. In a contract year, he’ll need to impress a new coaching staff and show them that he has the skills needed to be a solid linebacker in the 4-3 defense.

Expected Role: Special teams contributor. If Harvey-Clemons is going to make the team, he’ll need to show off better special teams skills than what he showed last year. Perhaps strong performance at linebacker in training camp could help him, but as a potential fifth or sixth linebacker for the team, his main goal will be showing that he’s better than decent on specials.

Status: Harvey-Clemons is on the roster bubble and is on the outside looking in. Nobody can be counted out in an uncertain linebacker room, but if it hasn’t all clicked for Harvey-Clemons yet, it may never come together. His time in Washington well could be running short.

UPDATE: Harvey-Clemons has opted out of the 2020 NFL season. He will get a chance to fight for a roster spot in 2021 but if young contributors emerge this year, he may have trouble locking down a spot.
