Predicting the roster of 53 for the Washington Football Team
Defense and Special Teams
Defensive Line
Starter: Montez Sweat
Starter: Chase Young
Starter: Jonathan Allen
Starter: Daron Payne
Backup: Matt Ioannidis
Backup: Ryan Kerrigan
Backup: Tim Settle
Backup: Nate Orchard
This is easily one of the best and deepest defensive lines in the league. Chase Young could challenge for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2020.
Linebackers
Starter: Ryan Anderson
Starter: Shaun Dion Hamilton
Starter: Cole Holcomb
Backup: Jon Bostic
Backup: Josh Harvey-Clemons
Backup: Khaleke Hudson
Backup: Kevin Pierre-Lewis
Anderson could have a breakout year and Hamilton could do the same. Hudson could become a special teams ace with his enthusiastic intensity. Thomas Davis is a notable omission; I believe his main purpose will be to help the team adjust to the system.
Safeties
Starter: Landon Collins
Starter: Sean Davis
Backup: Deshazor Everett
Backup: Troy Apke
Everett and Apke are also solid special teamers and that gives them an edge on other safeties. Is Apke on the bubble? This could be a “prove it” year for him.
Cornerbacks
Starter: Ronald Darby
Starter: Fabian Moreau
Starter: Kendall Fuller
Backup: Jimmy Moreland
Backup: Aaron Colvin
Backup: Greg Stroman
Darby is playing on a one-year “show me” deal and Moreau could be a candidate for a breakout season. Fuller is one of the best slot cornerbacks in the league and Moreland provides excellent depth.
Special Teams
Kicker: Dustin Hopkins
Punter: Tress Way
Long Snapper: Nick Sundberg
These three are definite locks. Those handling return duties could include Antonio Gibson, Trey Quinn, Greg Stroman, Steven Sims (on rare occasions), and Isaiah Wright.
