As usual, controversy is overrunning Redskins Park, but soon enough, we’ll have to get back to football, and the football team has questions surrounding it as well.
The Washington Redskins have had a busy offseason, both answering questions and creating them. On the football side of things, that’s an easier pill to swallow, as many questions on the roster will take time to answer. Ron Rivera himself has acknowledged that the 2020 season, if it occurs, will be a chance for unheralded players to compete. But as we near its beginning, the uncertainty only lingers.
One area of particular concern on the Redskins’ roster is wide receiver. Washington already lost Emanuel Hall, a challenger with high upside, to a torn Achilles, and last week, it was revealed that 2019 sixth-round pick and projected starter Kelvin Harmon had torn his ACL, effectively sidelining him for 2020 as well.
With Harmon and Hall gone, and with Cody Latimer’s outlook still clouded from his May arrest, it’s a tough task to project who might be the rostered receivers for the Redskins. Terry McLaurin and Steven Sims are definite locks, and Antonio Gandy-Golden should be as well, given his upside and niche skill set. But after them, it gets dicey.
The Redskins receiving core is the subject of our latest podcast episode! This time around, Jacob and I were joined by Riggo’s Rag contributor Jonathan Eig. Eig wrote an in-depth breakdown of Washington’s receiving core earlier in the year, and this time around, he joined us to give his perspective on what the position group looks like with Harmon out of the picture. We recorded this on Thursday before the news broke about the Washington Post article, so there are some references to that report in here. But for our purposes in this article, we’re back to football! Feel free to give your thoughts and opinions on the Redskins receiving core in the comments section below.
