Round 1

The Redskins finally had a first-round pick after being absent from the early round parties in 2013 and 2014.  With the fifth overall pick, they made it count with the selection of Iowa offensive lineman Brandon Scherff.

Scherff came with a reputation of being a nasty, no-nonsense protector of the rushing and passing offense. He has been a fixture at right guard from day one and he hasn’t disappointed the fan base at all.

Scherff is currently under the franchise tag and is expected to sign a long term extension either this summer or sometime in 2021. He is definitely in the future plans of the new regime.

The only negative for Scherff has been his health over the last couple of seasons, but some casual observers believe this has been the result of too many rigorous workouts at the behest of former offensive line coach Bill Callahan. Look for Scherff to regain his healthy form and miss little to no time.
