The Redskins traded Trent Williams just before the start of Day 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft. And less than an hour later, they had their new left tackle.

At the start of the fourth round, the Washington Redskins completed the changing of the guard on the blindside. Shortly after trading Trent Williams for a fifth-round pick and a third-rounder in 2021, the Redskins selected 20-year old offensive tackle Saahdiq Charles out of LSU.

The pick was met with general excitement, and for good reason; Charles was part of an LSU offense that put up historic numbers, and he did well protecting Joe Burrow’s blindside. In doing so, Charles displayed top-notch athleticism and feel. But questions surrounding Charles’ length and off-field character marred his draft grade.

With the draft now settled behind us, there’s reason to believe that one should be optimistic when assessing Charles’ outlook for 2020 and beyond, but there’s still a sense of uncertainty. That uncertainty won’t be going away anytime soon, but for now, we can look at Charles’ draft profile in its entirety, and get a better idea of what Charles provides as a prospect, where his ceiling might lie, and what can be expected from him both in the short-run and the long-run.

Those themes encapsulate the subject of the latest edition of the Riggo’s Rag Podcast, and the third episode of our draft breakdown podcast mini-series. I was once again joined by my trusty cohort Jacob Camenker, this time to discuss Redskins fourth-round pick Saahdiq Charles, and the intricacies of his draft projection. The issues covered herein include Charles’ character concerns, his athletic traits, his length and the implications of that length, and much, much more.
