With the many question marks surrounding the Redskins, can this offense surprise everyone and produce better than most people expect this season?

Last season, the Washington Redskins‘ offense struggled to get going most weeks of the season. The offense ended the season ranked 31st in total yards gained and dead last in points scored. Last year’s performance and the multiple question marks surrounding the offense are the reasons why many still have them ranked toward the bottom of the league this season.

Despite these low expectations, if everything goes as planned, the Redskins’ offense could surprise people this season and improve greatly from last year. The offensive growth is all going to start with new offensive coordinator Scott Turner.

Last season, the Redskins’ offensive scheme was not built around the Redskins’ strengths. This should no longer be the case in Washington under Scott Turner. NFL expert Josh Norris believes that Scott Turner will build this offense around the players’ strengths. With an offense built around the team’s strengths, players like Dwayne Haskins and Terry McLaurin will be put in the best position to succeed.

Speaking of Dwayne Haskins, his jump from his rookie season to year two will be another factor that will contribute to the growth of this offense. At the beginning of his rookie season, Haskins struggled to make plays, and it seemed as if he was not a capable starting NFL quarterback. Despite this, Haskins showed extreme growth toward the end of the season and put together three good games to finish off the year before getting injured.

The question going into next season is, which production will the team get from Haskins going forward? Will Haskins plateau, or will he continue to grow as an NFL quarterback? If Haskins’ development continues, he could be a very good NFL quarterback and revive the Redskins’ offense from the bottom of the league this season.

The Redskins offense will also need heavy contributions from newly acquired free agents and rookies this season to improve from last year and exceed expectations. Offensive line free agent signings such as Wes Schweitzer and Cornelius Lucas could both end up being day one starters on the left side of the Redskins’ offensive line. Dwayne Haskins will need this offensive line to improve and if these two are the answer, that would dramatically help Haskins and the rushing attack.

Redskins rookie playmakers such as Antonio Gibson and Antonio Gandy-Golden will both also be expected to play at a high level this season. Even undrafted free agent tight end Thaddeus Moss could be an important part of this offense’s growth this season. All three players will greatly help a Redskins offense that struggled in most aspects last year.

For most, the expectations for this Redskins offense are understandably low this season, but the offense has the chance to exceed every expectation set. If everything turns out as Scott Turner and company expect, this offense has a chance to elevate this team to the next level.
