The Washington Redskins couldn’t beat the Philadelphia Eagles, losing by 10 in a game that was much closer than the final scoreline indicates.

The Redskins had a chance at a potential game-winning Hail Mary with 6 seconds left in the game. Dwayne Haskins stood in the pocket and was pressured immediately. The Eagles made him throw the ball backward and Nigel Bradham picked it up and returned it for a meaningless touchdown. As a result, the Eagles beat the Redskins 37-27, but the game was much closer than the scoreline indicates.

Much of that was thanks to the performance of the Washington offense. Haskins had the best game of his young Redskins career. He was sharp for the entire first half and continued to put the Redskins in position to win late in the contest. He avoided turnovers and notably got the ball out quicker than he had in games past. In fact, he wasn’t sacked once against a solid Eagles pass rush because he was getting the ball out so much faster.

Overall, Haskins went 19-of-28 for 261 yards and two TDs. He did have the aforementioned fumble that was returned for a touchdown, but that was on the final play of the game when the team was in desperation mode. So, not a lot of stock should be put into that. The Redskins front office and fans should be encouraged by this performance, as he clearly showcased the abilities that made him a No. 15 pick by the franchise. He still has some work to do, but this was a massive step in the right direction.

Terry McLaurin also had a massive day for the Redskins. He had five catches for 130 yards and a touchdown, which came after he turned a 15-yard pass into a 75-yard score.

Steven Sims Jr. was also solid in the slot. He made some mistakes, including a couple of drops, but he did have a beautiful touchdown catch that came off a great Haskins throw. Sims did well to get both feet down on the score, and it looks like he’s going to be a solid slot man moving forward.

Defensively, the Redskins just couldn’t slow down the Eagles. They were gashed by the Philadelphia tight ends and Greg Ward had a big day at receivers. At times, Miles Sanders and Boston Scott looked unstoppable on the ground.

The ‘Skins just didn’t look good against the Eagles best weapons. Ryan Anderson made some big plays and looked really good, but the secondary had some issues due to a plethora of injuries. That’s part of the reason they regressed after a few weeks of solid performance on this side of the ball.

The Redskins loss drops them to 3-11 and with the New York Giants winning, they’re now tied up with a number of teams for the No. 2 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. So, that’s a silver lining in what ended up being a disappointing loss.
