On Thursday night, a warrant for former Redskins cornerback Quinton Dunbar’s arrest was issued in connection with an armed robbery. Now, Dunbar’s legal team is claiming that he wasn’t involved in the incident.

The Washington Redskins traded cornerback Quinton Dunbar this offseason. And just months after joining the Seattle Seahawks, he has found himself in trouble.

On Thursday night, arrest warrants were issued for Dunbar and New York Giants cornerback Deandre Baker. The two were reportedly involved in an armed robbery in which Baker pulled a gun on several guests at a party and took their money and valuables. According to the police report, Dunbar was among the men who took valuables from the guests at the direction of Baker, but it wasn’t clear if Dunbar had been armed or not.

But now, that whole story is coming into question. As Andy Slater reports, Dunbar’s lawyer, Michael Grieco, is stating that Dunbar wasn’t involved in the alleged armed robbery and that the victims of the crime confirm this to be true.

This is certainly an interesting development. And considering that the arrest warrant issued for Dunbar came short of charging him directly with armed robbery, it’s possible that Dunbar was just a bystander. He did reportedly assist in taking the valuables of those that Baker threatened at the party in question, but perhaps these witness accounts will change that assertion.

At this point in time, it’s unclear exactly what has happened. And only the people that were actually there for the alleged robbery know what occurred. But either way, Dunbar put himself in a bad position ahead of what’s a crucial contract year for himself. So, his decision-making will be questioned even if he wasn’t involved in the robbery and this whole thing was a wrong place, wrong time thing for him.

We’ll keep an eye on what happens with Dunbar in the coming days. But amid this news, it looks like the Redskins pulled the trigger on a deal at the right time; if they had waited to get full value for him at some point during the offseason, they’d be dealing with this situation and Dunbar’s trade value would have completely eroded.

In short, getting a fifth-round pick for Dunbar doesn’t look too bad at this point in time.
