First five

Arizona Cardinals: S Budda Baker, age 24. Baker has made the Pro Bowl in two of his first three years. Not even the real Buddha did that.

Baltimore Ravens: LB Matthew Judon, 27. After his Pro Bowl year in which he recorded 9.5 sacks and 4 forced fumbles, Baltimore franchised Judon. There are rumors he is on the trading block, with Seattle being interested. Since the ‘Skins also play Seattle this year, I feel comfortable including him here.

Carolina Panthers: TE Ian Thomas, 24. What, you thought I was going with McCaffrey? Too easy. Instead, watch out for the mammoth tight end who will try and make Panther fans forget about Greg Olsen. He went to Digital Harbor High in Baltimore.

Cincinnati Bengals: WR John Ross, 24. If you play fantasy football, please try to stop laughing. The ultra-fast Ross has been a disappointment thus far, but last year, he began to show signs. The thought is that with a better QB (see “Burrow, Joe”), Ross can take the top off the defense for the old A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd (a.k.a. the young AJ Green) to work underneath. It’s a thought.

Cleveland Browns: CB Denzel Ward, 22. You know the last cornerback to be drafted as high as No. 4, which is where the Browns took Ward in 2018 (excluding the Lions pick of Jeff Okudah at No. 3 in 2020)? I’ll give you a minute. Twenty years prior – Charles Woodson in 1998. How’d that work out? I think by the end of his career, Ward will be as good as Woodson. (But no matter how good he turns out to be, he is destined to never be the top Google choice when you type in “Denzel Wa”)
