123. . Edge Rusher. Dallas Cowboys. K'Lavon Chaisson. 17. player

Here’s another holdover pick on the defensive line. This isn’t quite K’Lavon Chaisson’s floor, but some other top defensive prospects would have to fall for the Cowboys to consider passing on him.

The Cowboys will almost certainly use this pick on defense. They lost a couple of strong players on that side of the ball in free agency, as Byron Jones signed with the Miami Dolphins and Robert Quinn signed with the Chicago Bears. The Cowboys simply couldn’t afford them due to the investments they’re making on offense in Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and Amari Cooper.

Though Dallas might like a corner, they probably won’t grab one here unless they trade down. Besides, Chaisson is probably the best player on the board anyway. Here’s what I said about his fit in Dallas in my most recent mock draft.

"Chaisson had a productive season for LSU as a key member of their defense. He racked up 60 tackles and 6.5 sacks for the squad and his athletic ability off the edge gives him even more upside at the next level. Chaisson carries 254 pounds on his 6-foot-3 frame and has nice length and athleticism. He didn’t do anything at the combine — that could’ve gotten him a lot more buzz had he worked out and done well then — but it’s known that he has good speed, bend, and length. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared him to Aldon Smith, who recently signed with the Cowboys, so perhaps if the Cowboys see things similarly, they will target Chaisson."

If Chaisson doesn’t fit the bill for the Cowboys here, it seems likely they would trade down. Perhaps a team wanting to leap the Dolphins for offensive tackle talent would move up to this spot. The Cowboys could then recoup some extra draft picks and target a corner or an interior offensive lineman like Cesar Ruiz to replace Travis Frederick. They have a lot of options and this could be a hot spot for a trade.
