18. player. 59. . Offensive Tackle. Miami Dolphins. Mekhi Becton

I’ve had all of the Big 4 tackles go in the top 14 picks in most of my mock drafts this offseason. But this time around, some of the tackle-needy teams picking on the earlier side simply opted to go for other positions. That caused Mekhi Becton to be available here. And if he is, the Dolphins shouldn’t hesitate to grab him.

Becton is a behemoth at 6-foot-7, 364 pounds. Yet his movement skills are elite. He clocked a 5.10 flat in the 40-yard dash at the combine, a time that’s almost unfathomable for a man that big. And on tape, he’s a smooth, fluid mover.

Watching Becton play at Louisville is a thing of beauty. He was an absolute steamroller who is athletic in space and should see his strength and quickness translate to the next level. He’s a bit raw and will need time to develop, but he should have a chance to become one of the best left tackles in the NFL if he progresses well.

The Dolphins absolutely need to get tackle help, especially they’re going to draft Tua Tagovailoa. Becton would be a huge upgrade over current left tackle Julie’n Davenport and would set up the Dolphins to at least have competent starters in Becton and Jesse Davis, though the latter could also be replaced or relegated to a swing role by another draft pick.

The ‘Fins could go for a receiver here. Or they could trade up to jump the Buccaneers if they want Jedrick Wills, a player they supposedly love. Could they trade up to the 49ers’ No. 13 pick to grab Wills and force the Bucs to have to take a chance on Becton? It’s possible. Keep an eye on the Dolphins with their second pick, as they well could move up on Draft Day given their vast draft capital this season.
