2. Dwayne Haskins develops while playing through an injury

Dwayne Haskins stayed on the field in the second half despite clearly being less than 100 percent. He was dealing with an ankle sprain, which was later revealed during the game, but he elected to play through it.

The decision to keep Haskins on the field was certainly a questionable one. After all, the Redskins weren’t really playing for anything in the contest, but nonetheless, Bill Callahan decided to keep Haskins in after he was cleared by the team’s doctors.

That choice aside, Haskins did well in the second half. Once again, he didn’t do anything spectacular. But he showed a lot of toughness gutting through the ankle injury and was still willing to scramble, navigate the pocket, and get the ball where it needed to go.

Haskins had some nice throws, but the real takeaway is how much he wants to be the starter. He clearly has the drive needed to be a quarterback. Nobody will question his love of the game after this performance. And he did lead the team on a late-game touchdown drive to cut it to a one-score game. So, he did his share to try and keep the team alive in this contest.

Hopefully, Haskins will be able to get fully healthy quickly. The team should approach him with extreme caution moving forward, even if there is just a minor setback with the ankle. While Haskins did develop despite the ankle injury, there’s no reason to risk his long-term future over three meaningless games.

We’ll see how Haskins progresses this week. But it was clear that he was continuing to take baby steps forward in this contest, even despite the injury. And that is a major positive for the Redskins.
