3. Derrius Guice’s injury diagnosis will be critical

Derrius Guice was one of the brightest spots for the Redskins over the course of the past two weeks. He unfortunately had to leave this game early with an injury and his status moving forward is uncertain.

Guice’s injury came at the end of a 23-yard run when he got hit hard low. It looked like he had possibly suffered some sort of leg or knee injury and after the game, it was reported to be a leg issue.

According to ESPN’s John Keim, Guice will be having an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the injury.

This news will be critical for the Redskins. Before exiting, Guice was averaging 8.4 yards per carry for the Redskins. And in the previous three weeks, Guice had provided the team with the explosive element out of the backfield that the team was lacking. Against the Panthers, he was particularly strong and he had one of the best stiff arms the league has seen this season on a massive run.

Given that Guice has dealt with leg/knee injuries over the course of the past couple years, the results of this MRI will be critical. Hopefully, it will just be a minor malady and won’t impact him much going forward. But that history makes this MRI very important.

The Redskins need Guice to be healthy if he is going to be the future of the Redskins backfield as many are hoping. If he can’t stay healthy, the team may have to think about pairing him with a sturdy option long-term whether that’s Bryce Love or a different runner.
