Redskins activate RB Derrius Guice from injured reserve to 53-man roster

The Redskins will get a bit of a boost in their offensive talent department following the bye week.
When the Washington Redskins traded back in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft and managed to grab LSU running back Derrius Guice, it was viewed as a draft-day steal. Guice was viewed as a first-round talent at running back by some, and it was assumed that he would immediately infuse the offense with talent and excitement.
Two years later, Guice’s NFL career hasn’t gone as planned. Guice missed his entire rookie season due to a torn ACL suffered in the first week of preseason, against the New England Patriots. He was active for the team’s 2019 season debut, but only logged 18 yards on ten carries before sustaining another injury that would render him inactive for eight more games.
The Redskins placed Guice on injured reserve for his extended leave, and now, it appears as though he’s had enough time to get healthy and get back on the field. Per ESPN reporter Field Yates, Washington has officially activated Guice from injured reserve, and placed him back on the 53-man roster. The Redskins prepared for the move yesterday when they released Craig Reynolds from the squad. Now, they have awarded him his spot, and he should be included in the Week 11 offensive game plan.
Having Guice available will surely be a boon to a team that is in dire need of dynamic talent on offense. That said, how Guice will be implemented is a mystery. Adrian Peterson has been catching fire lately, and it’s likely that the Redskins will still ease Guice into action, even with his full availability.
With Guice now rostered, the Redskins have five running backs on their fifty-three man squad. In addition to Guice and Peterson, they also have Wendell Smallwood, Chris Thompson, and full back Michael Burton. Stay tuned with us here at Riggo’s Rag, as a move could be made to trim down that position group, if they need help somewhere else.
