Stock Up – Redskins OT Timon Parris

Check this out: Timon Parris was the Redskins highest-graded overall player on Pro Football Focus. He only played fifteen snaps against the Falcons, ten pass blocking snaps and five run blocking snaps. But he finished with an overall grade of 92.5, derived from a solid 79.8 pass blocking grade and an excellent 95.1 run blocking grade.

On those ten pass blocking snaps, Parris didn’t allow a single pressure, and he strengthened his case to be the team’s No. 4 offensive tackle, behind Morgan Moses, Donald Penn, and Geron Christian. He was playing against second and third-string defenders, but he did his job, regardless, and he did it very well.

With Trent Williams out of the picture for the unforeseeable future, Parris’ chances at making the roster have increased exponentially. One of his competitors, Brian Wallace, was cut early in preseason, and his only opponent left for the No. 4 tackle spot appears to be Blake Hance. It’s safe to say Parris is slowly moving from the roster bubble to the roster itself.

Parris has the upside to be a reliable safety blanket at tackle. In his podcast with Riggo’s Rag, offensive line expert Robbie Duncan praised Parris’ pass set and his ability as an easy mover, and said he expected Parris to make the roster, based on his upside and utility. That prediction seems to be coming to pass, as Parris left the Redskins with another quality performance on Thursday. And with competent linemen being hard to come by, Parris’ growth can’t go unrewarded.
