2. Geron Christian allows three sacks

Count me among those that are pessimistic about the development of the Redskins’ 2018 third-round pick.

Christian’s career in the NFL hasn’t been very good to date, as he struggled immensely during his rookie season and only logged limited action before being hurt. While there was some hope that he could improve in his second season, much like Morgan Moses did after he was a third-round pick, those hopes are evaporating rather quickly.

Christian hasn’t done much to instill confidence in his abilities this training camp and preseason. He missed time early recovering from an injury and that, plus Ereck Flowers‘ poor performance at tackle, forced the Redskins to sign Donald Penn. The veteran now appears to have the upper hand on Christian, so that’s already a red flag for the former Louisville product.

More from Riggo's Rag

Penn gained the upper hand when Christian struggled to block against the Cleveland Browns in the preseason opener. Christian was thrown around like a rag doll on one play by Myles Garrett and didn’t look close to being ready for significant action as a starting tackle, especially not on the left side of the line. Still, Christian is listed atop the Redskins depth chart, so he appears to be getting a chance to win that position.

The game against the Bengals could do a lot to change that. The Bengals have no shortage of solid pass rushers and even if their top dogs don’t play, they could still challenge Christian. If Christian struggles with his technique against fast players and continues to lack the strength needed to battle more physical players, he could allow quite a bit of pressure. And that will do a lot to push him down the depth chart.

All told, I’m predicting that Christian allows three sacks in this contest. He will struggle against the Bengals and the team’s quarterbacks will pay the price.
