Redskins vs. Browns: Storylines, how to watch, and more
By Ian Cummings
2019 football begins tonight. Eleven NFL games are on the docket, and the Redskins are included.
For their 2019 preseason debut, the Washington Redskins travel to Cleveland to face off against Freddie Kitchens and the Browns. It’s a clash of budding hope and established mediocrity, but in preseason, the storylines never get that deep.
It’s as simple as this: The Redskins and Browns both have 90-man rosters to trim down, and this game is the first of four with which the teams will make their roster fringe decisions. Roster hopefuls will get more playing time, and position battles will be processed. The final score doesn’t matter, but the final whistle does. Because the players have until then to make their case.
That said, while this game doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, we will see a number of interesting developments that may pertain to the franchise’s bigger picture as the season goes along. Franchise quarterback Dwayne Haskins is set to see his first snaps in a Redskins jersey, as are several other rookies. Kevin O’Connell has his first game as offensive coordinator tonight, and a retooled defense will look to withstand adversity and become the lifeblood of the team.
The game starts at 7:30 eastern time, and while it won’t be broadcast nationally, you can watch it on NBC Sports Mid-Atlantic if you live in the D.C. local area. You can also stream it live online via NFL Game Pass or FuboTV.
It’s an enticing spectacle on deck, and we’ve got a great lineup of pregame coverage on hand for you to browse. Make sure you know everything there is to know, as the burgundy and gold finally get back to football!
