What Christian needs to show at Redskins training camp

The Redskins drafted Christian knowing that any dividends paid off would be long-term, and not short-term. Time will tell if their judgement was accurate; they did pass over current starter Orlando Brown for Christian, so the consequences of their decision have already been put on display.

For those consequences to be negated, Christian will have to show at least a snippet of growth in the 2019 Redskins training camp session. He should be close to full health, at the very least, as MCL injuries aren’t as severe as ACL injuries.

Christian was drafted because of his size and his length. He stands at 6-foot-5, 315 pounds, with 35-inch arms and near 11-inch hands. He moves adequately for that size, although his balance could stand to improve, and he has the potential to be a heavy-handed blindside blocker.

Time in the weight room, and time with Bill Callahan on the practice field, could be key in unlocking his potential. If he can showcase more consistent strength and leverage manipulation, and show that he has a mental plan to both compensate for his shortcomings, and magnify his physical strengths, then he’ll be on the right developmental track.
