Trent Williams has reportedly undergone another surgery. However, this one appears to be minor and it isn’t viewed as a setback.

Over the course of the last week, Trent Williams’ status has become a talking point for Washington Redskins fans. Williams held out of mandatory minicamp and depending on what you believe, he is either looking for a new contract or is angry with the team’s medical staff and doesn’t want to play in Washington anymore.

Either way, the ‘Skins are very thin at tackle with Williams out. So, it’s understandable that fans might be a little bit nervous after getting wind that Williams may have undergone another surgery.

Per NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay, Williams posted a picture on his Instagram story that appeared to be him getting ready for a medical procedure. While that caused a little bit of alarm, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport quickly reported that the surgery is “not considered to be major.”

Hopefully, Rapoport is right. Because if Williams is shelved for any amount of time, the Redskins will have major issues at tackle.

This offseason, with Williams holding out and Geron Christian still recovering from an injury, Washington has been forced to use a cast of characters including Ereck Flowers, Tyler Catalina, and Timon Parris at the left tackle position. That’s not exactly an inspiring group. Williams is one of the best left tackles in the league when healthy, and he is arguably the biggest key to the team’s offense, as he provides excellent pass protection and is a great run blocker as well.

It is interesting that there were rumors about Williams having issues with the team’s medical staff that was shortly followed up by this surgery. It could absolutely be nothing, but if he isn’t happy with how his injury is progressing, that could play a role in the anger he is reportedly holding. But still, that is just a rumor and should be treated as such.
