. Tight End. Iowa. T.J. Hockenson. 8. player. 50

Bob Quinn and the Lions know they have a hole at tight end, and they may see a little bit of Rob Gronkowski in T.J. Hockenson. They could opt to take Hockenson early to ensure that they get the offensive upgrade they want and need at the position.

Hockenson is one of the most well-rounded tight ends in this deep class. He could immediately emerge as a quality playmaker, and he should be a very good blocker at the next level as well. He would give Matthew Stafford a third weapon to target, which is something the team greatly missed after trading Golden Tate away last season.

The Lions could look to trade down with a team like the Panthers, but if they don’t, they may just opt for the safest and most impactful player on the board. In this circumstance, that would be Hockenson.

Other Lions Draft Options

DL Rashan Gary, Michigan. Gary is a very athletic prospect and a former five-star recruit. However, he could fall due to lacking production at Michigan.

DE Montez Sweat, Mississippi State. Sweat would have been the pick here easily before medical tests at the combine hurt his draft stock. The Lions could still take him, but it’s more likely that Sweat will go in the mid to late first round.

EDGE Brian Burns, Florida State. If the Lions shy away from Montez Sweat due to his medical condition, Burns could get consideration here. He would be a nice complement to Trey Flowers.
