Redskins 7-Round Mock Draft: Team goes offense heavy, grabs QB early
It’s clear that the Redskins need some help at guard. They took a chance on veteran tackle and first-round bust Ereck Flowers, in hopes that he can fill the void they had at left guard, but there’s no guarantee that will work.
If the Redskins wait until the third round to take an offensive lineman, Nate Davis would make sense. The team has shown interest in the Charlotte guard, recently visiting with him at Redskins Park, and may like the skill set of the guard-turned-tackle. He is a bit small to play outside at the next level, but he should be a stout, sturdy blocker.
I actually had the Redskins selecting Davis in my recent three-round mock draft. Here’s what I said about Davis at that time.
"The Redskins need to add offensive line help at some point. While I was tempted to give them quarterback Brett Rypien at this point, Nate Davis was too good to pass on. Davis was a strong tackle at Charlotte, but he needs to move inside at the NFL level. He could challenge Ereck Flowers for the left guard spot and his strength would be an asset in the run game. If the Redskins wait until the third round to get a guard, Nate Davis would be a great pickup for them."
Davis would give the team the competition they need to potentially oust Flowers at guard. And at the very least, he would provide some nice, young depth to a unit that desperately needs it.
