The Washington Redskins are examining some more players ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft. Charlotte guard Nate Davis is one of them.

Tuesday is apparently a busy day for visits at Redskins Park. After it was reported that Will Grier and Parris Campbell were visiting the ‘Skins today, it appears that a small-school prospect is also in attendance.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, that is Charlotte’s Nate Davis.

Davis is a strong offensive lineman with a solid 6-3, 316-pound frame. He mostly played right guard at Charlotte but moved to right tackle during his final season. At the NFL level, his best position will be on the interior, so the interest from Washington makes sense.

More from Riggo's Rag

I actually had Davis mocked to the Redskins in my recent three-round mock draft. Here’s what I said about Davis’ fit with the team in that piece.

"The Redskins need to add offensive line help at some point. While I was tempted to give them quarterback Brett Rypien at this point, Nate Davis was too good to pass on. Davis was a strong tackle at Charlotte, but he needs to move inside at the NFL level. He could challenge Ereck Flowers for the left guard spot and his strength would be an asset in the run game. If the Redskins wait until the third round to get a guard, Nate Davis would be a great pickup for them."

Davis has decent athleticism, but his strength will be what separates him from the pack at the NFL level. Despite his stouter frame, he is thick and has good muscle mass. He could be a solid starter at the next level, and as a late Day 2 pick, he would make a lot of sense.

Of course, there is one minor cause for concern with the Redskins fans. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared Davis as a player to… Shawn Lauvao. That’s a frightening proposition given Lauvao’s poor play for the ‘Skins in the past five years, but it’s important to remember that 1) Lauvao was injury prone and 2) this is merely a comparison based on skill set. Davis could know how to use his strong but stout frame better than Lauvao, so he could actually turn into a solid starter.

dark. Next. 3 late-round gems for Washington to target

The Redskins’ interest in Davis is certainly noted. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see them target him with one of their two third-round picks unless a superior value on the interior line is available.
