Redskins Injury Report: 5 out for game against the Titans, Josh Doctson questionable
The Washington Redskins have a lengthy injury report, and they have already declared five players out for Saturday’s game. Here’s how it will impact the team.
Heading into Week 16, it was abundantly clear that neither Jordan Reed nor Colt McCoy would be able to suit up for the Redskins. Both players are dealing with injuries that are expected to keep them out multiple weeks and, if not, for the rest of the season. However, the rest of the Redskins injury report is long once again, and they have already declared five out for the game.
In addition to McCoy and Reed being out, the team confirmed that three other players would miss time, per the team’s official Twitter. They are Vernon Davis, Ty Nsekhe, and Maurice Harris. The team will certainly miss these productive offensive players, and the absence of Nsekhe will be particularly tough.
With Nsekhe out, the team will be down to their sixth and seventh options at offensive guard. It seems likely that Luke Bowanko and Zac Kerin will start for the team. Both have only been with the ‘Skins for a matter of weeks, and neither projects to perform particularly well. Losing Nsekhe is a huge downgrade there, and the depth of the line will be tested, as it seems that the recently signed Timon Parris will be the top backup.
Meanwhile, at tight end, Davis’ absence — coupled with Reed’s absence — will open the door for Jeremy Sprinkle at the position. Sprinkle caught three passes and a TD last week. They were his first catches all season. This will be a nice test for Sprinkle, as the Titans have covered the TE position well this year. If he can perform well, that will give the team some confidence in his abilities heading into the 2019 offseason (or postseason, whichever may come).
Meanwhile, Harris’ absence will only become a bigger problem if Josh Doctson can’t play. Doctson is dealing with a back injury and if that keeps him out, the team will be razor thin at receiver. The newly signed Darvin Kidsy could be forced into a big role, so that is something to keep an eye on as well.
At this point, the injuries are a problem for the Redskins. There’s just no avoiding it. We’ll see what the backups can do in a do-or-die game against the Titans.
