The Reuben Foster situation is not going to go away. According to a report, some NFL executives are upset with the Redskins for claiming him on waivers.

I know the Reuben Foster narrative is starting to feel old, but the fact of the matter is that the move was extremely controversial and the Redskins knew what they were getting themselves into when it happened. The move has opened up the team to scrutiny in what has been a terrible week for the NFL, from a PR standpoint, as the Foster and Kareem Hunt domestic violence cases have dominated the attention of fans everywhere.

While some have been happy with the Redskins decision to claim Foster, pointing out that he is innocent until proven guilty and the team landed a quality player for virtually no cost, many have been upset with the decision. After all, the team claimed Foster just 72 hours after he was arrested on domestic violence charges, and various other issues popped up in the wake of that.

Those issue include the team not contacting the police investigators that dealt with the case, reportedly talking to the Alabama players on the team and some denying it, and of course, sending Doug Williams out to deal with the situation and him referring to it as “small potatoes.” All of that has opened the team to a lot of criticism, and now, that criticism is coming in from other NFL teams and front offices.

According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, NFL executives have been less than pleased with the Redskins decision, and they indicated that it makes the league look bad. Here’s a sampling of what some of these anonymous executives said, per La Canfora.

"Another NFL GM said: “I wouldn’t even present it to my owner. Maybe once we know the outcome of the investigation. Maybe as a free agent down the road once he’s cleared waivers. But I didn’t even think about claiming him. I couldn’t believe they did.”Another prominent team executive said: “What do they gain by doing this now? It reflects poorly on the entire league. It makes all of us look bad. They said in their own press release he might not ever play a snap for them. What’s the point? I’m kind of disgusted by it.”"

This reaction is far from surprising. The other 31 teams in the league didn’t put in a claim to get Foster. There was a reason for that, as the executives in each front office didn’t want to be involved with Foster. Like the first GM said, they would have considered him after the investigation or as a free agent down the road, but claiming him now truly seems like an unbelievable move.

The executives paneled by La Canfora also seem to think that this was a decision made by Bruce Allen and Dan Snyder, so take that for what it’s worth.

This really doesn’t have much of an impact on the Redskins organization right now. They probably don’t care what people think of them, and the damage caused by this move has already been done. But either way, it seems that some executives across the league don’t agree with their decision to claim Foster, and that is worth noting.

Also, this is notable because of Kareem Hunt’s pending waivers after being released by the Chiefs. Given the reaction to the Foster move, it seems unlikely that any team will claim him, especially with the video out there of his assault and in wake of these comments about Washington’s decision to claim Foster. While many have joked that Hunt could land with the Redskins, it truly would be a surprise to see any team claim him as that scandal continues. Don’t expect the ‘Skins, or any other NFL team, to claim Hunt.
