Redskins injury report surprisingly barren ahead of Week 1 game
By Ian Cummings
Injuries are always a cruel reality in football. But for the Redskins in 2017, injuries and football were almost synonyms.
Naturally, the coming of a new season brings worry that the latest opportunity for the team to compete will be constrained by cataclysmic health issues, much like last season.
The Washington Redskins haven’t necessarily been lucky so far. The team lost second-round rookie and running game catalyst Derrius Guice for the season. Other solid depth players such as Robert Davis and Arie Kouandjio were lost as well due to injuries sustained in practice. Kouandjio’s loss is particularly crucial, as the offensive line depth was suspect to start the offseason.
Nevertheless, Washington has to move forward with the team they have. And their first game is this Sunday, against the Arizona Cardinals. The Redskins can’t spend the next few days worrying about injuries, and luckily for them, it doesn’t look like they’ll have to. Here’s the injury report, courtesy of Cardinals reporter Josh Weinfuss.
Yes, you read that right. Washington has less than half the injuries that the Cardinals do currently. And while six of the Cardinals’ seven listed players were either limited participants or no-shows in the latest practices, the Redskins only have one player listed as “did not participate”: Wide receiver Maurice Harris. The other two players, Zach Brown and Colt McCoy, were both listed as full participants.
The best part? Jordan Reed‘s name is nowhere to be seen.
Of course, these kinds of things change fast once the season starts. Washington knows this better than anyone. But regardless of the implications of a grueling season, it’s important to start out strong, and start out healthy. The Redskins appear to be close to doing that.
The Redskins face off against the Arizona Cardinals at 4:25 EST on Sunday. Make sure you don’t miss any of the action by following along with Riggo’s Rag!
